Bungie has laid out a detailed worksheet to help players understand Marathon's Ranked system, reflecting how tricky it is to build a competitive mode for an extraction shooter. Questions about starting gear, whether kills or AI loot matter, and what actually counts as a win make the scoring system hard to follow at first.

The worksheet poses four questions (plus a bonus) that use a provided table of values. For example: Johnnie (Silver), Andy (Gold) and Chris (Silver) have a combined score target of 17,000; Paul (Gold), Ross (Silver) and Nikki (Platinum) would each lose 14,200 Ranked Points if they fail to exit.

Other examples include a crew with Diamond, Platinum and Platinum holotags and three looted Gold tags: their combined score target is 55,000, their overperformance capacity 13,250, and the total potential gain 68,250. Phil, who equips a Gold holotag and exfils after looting 6,000 gear value, gains or loses no rank because a Gold tag requires 7,000 gear value to earn points.
