Bungie confirms Marathon will wipe loot and progress every season

Marathon's weekend Server Slam has only just finished, but with the game launching in a mere three days on March 5, Bungie has laid out its post-launch plans, including Season 1 and the studio's approach to seasonal wipes. Season 1 runs from March to June and is titled Death is the First Step.

As part of that narrative, players will soon discover a way aboard the derelict UESC Marathon ship hanging above Tau Ceti; once the community unlocks the way into orbit, the fourth zone, Cryo Archive, will become available. That end-game location promises puzzles, frozen vaults, and the alien featured in the trailers, and appears to be unlocked through a community-driven event similar to how Stella Montis was opened.

Season 1 also brings Ranked mode in the second half of March to let players climb the ladder and earn exclusive rewards, along with events such as C.A.R.R.I., a new weapon, and more. Season 2, Nightfall, runs from June to August and adds the Night Marsh map, a Shell, 'The Cradle' system, plus new guns, mods, and enemies.
