Cali vibes in east London: bringing Golden State style home
In the deep of February I watch the minutes of daylight climb and begin daydreaming of long Californian evenings. Those lucent visions—driving from Monterey to Malibu—prompted a small home project to bring the warmth and vitality of the Golden State into my east London flat, with plenty of inspiration found at interiors store Monologue London.
A visit to Kew Gardens helped, where the towering coastal redwoods felt like a sliver of California in west London. The Victorians first brought seeds and saplings here and even displayed a 100-metre-tall piece of bark inside Crystal Palace in 1854. California’s abundance is magnetic: nine national parks, 280 state parks, volcanoes, deserts, a breathtaking coastline, rolling flower-strewn hills, and a harvest-rich agriculture and wine region that runs from Mendocino through Santa Barbara to San Diego.
That landscape shapes Californian interiors—natural materials, organic shapes and an eco-conscious approach.
