Calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment are gaining momentum after a U.S. operation in Venezuela that captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife, according to Time. Trump hailed the operation as a victory, praising the "spectacular assault" that led to the capture, while the United Nations said the action has made "all States less safe around the world" and world leaders criticized the raid.

Since Saturday’s pre-dawn operation in Caracas, Trump has also threatened that the U.S. may carry out interventions elsewhere, prompting further concern. At home, several Democratic lawmakers have urged action. Rep. April McClain Delaney called for the Democratic Caucus to "imminently consider impeachment proceedings," saying the President acted "without authorization or approval from Congress" and voiced intent to "run" the country.

California state Sen. Scott Wiener called the move an "illegal invasion and coup" in a press release issued on Jan. 3, and Rep. Delia C.
