Canadians are still unhappy with Trump and hesitant about US travels
New data from Longwoods International shows Canadians remain hesitant to travel to the US and are steering toward Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, or domestic trips. Major snowbird destinations from Palm Springs to southern Florida are feeling the pinch. A January survey of more than 1,000 prospective travelers found 55% plan to travel to the US in the next 12 months, little changed from 54% in October 2025, while only 9% have already booked.
The US Commerce Department's National Travel and Tourism Office reported four million fewer Canadian visitors in 2025, a 22% drop, and 73% of Canadians who changed 2026 plans to avoid the US cited economic policies and tariffs. More than 40% say they disagree that the US values or welcomes international travelers, and fewer Canadians now say the US feels safe to visit.
States and businesses have tried to win Canadians back.
