Bobby Cannavale and Simon Baker discussed key moments from Scarpetta’s Season 1 finale, reflecting on how their characters intersect with Nicole Kidman’s Kay and Jamie Lee Curtis’s Dorothy. Cannavale said reteaming with Kidman felt natural after Nine Perfect Strangers, and both actors praised the scripts and Patricia’s source material as rich with possibilities.

Baker described Benton as deliberately hard to read, explaining he found the character gradually through the scripts and conversations with showrunner Liz Sarnoff. He drew unexpected inspiration from a couple of memoirs he was reading at the time, then worked with Sarnoff to shape what wasn’t spelled out on the page.

The finale’s choices still feel unresolved. Cannavale called Pete’s decision to be with Dorothy “complicated,” saying Pete loves both women and is emotionally stuck. Baker characterized the Kay–Benton confrontation as two people trying to reach different truths; Benton’s response, asking for a divorce, was his way of regaining control.
