Season 27 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit opened with a surprise when "Thirsty" began with an NYPD vs. FDNY boxing match that put Captain Renee Curry (Aimé Donna Kelly) in the ring, backed by her unit in the stands. A known kick-boxing badass, Curry dodged her opponent's blows with preternatural skill and landed a final punch that secured the NYPD's win.

The crowd went wild, and her SVU teammates later flooded the locker room to shower her with praise. Detective Jake Griffin burst in shouting 'Killer Curry!' and 'Next stop, Golden Gloves!' while Amanda Rollins echoed, 'Nice work in there, partner.' Benson, who had made a safe bet on Curry, called it the easiest $100 she'd ever made and urged the squad to celebrate.

Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan then surprised Curry in the locker room, praising her past and offering a path that included a promotion to SVU deputy chief.
