Cardiac, Respiratory, and Exercise Research Wrap Week Aboard Station
The Expedition 74 crew wrapped up the week with cardiac and respiratory studies and space exercise research to keep astronauts healthy off the Earth. They also packed a SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft before its return and maintained science and life support hardware.
Flight Engineers Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway worked in the Columbus laboratory to process blood samples. Meir then operated the Ultrasound 3 device and scanned Hathaway’s neck, shoulder and leg veins. Doctors are monitoring the astronauts’ blood markers to protect blood flow and prevent space-caused blood clots.
ESA Flight Engineer Sophie Adenot used the advanced resistive exercise device while four cameras in the Tranquility module observed her musculoskeletal system in motion. Flight Engineer Chris Williams spent the first half of his shift loading science experiments and station hardware into a Dragon docked to the Harmony module’s forward port ahead of its return; Meir helped with the cargo packing.
