Jamie Carragher delivered a blunt assessment of Chelsea’s prospects after the Blues were beaten 5-2 by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. He warned the club will not reach the top of English or European football while their goalkeeping situation remains unresolved.

Chelsea had twice levelled through Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez, but a costly passing error by goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen allowed Vitinha to lob into an empty net and sparked a collapse, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia adding a late double. Carragher said: "I’ve been critical of Chelsea for a long time, but I’m being deadly serious, they can’t go any further until they sort the goalkeeping issue out.

I’ve been saying this consistently." He added that Rosenior’s tactics were "fantastic" but that individual mistakes at centre-back and goalkeeper rendered the game plan ineffective. Wesley Fofana also acknowledged the problems, saying: "At this level, you don't have the right to make these kinds of mistakes.
