Michael Carrick has signalled Manchester United will prioritise signing a left winger this summer after Ruben Amorim's overhaul left the squad thin on the flanks. The club spent over £170 million on players such as Antony and Jadon Sancho in recent years, but are now shifting back to a more traditional 4-2-3-1 system.

Amorim's changes saw Antony leave for Real Betis in a £21.65m deal and Alejandro Garnacho sold to Chelsea for £40m. Sancho remains on loan at Aston Villa with his contract set to expire, and United officials have expressed regret over the £26m buy-option included in Marcus Rashford’s loan to Barcelona.

Carrick has often relied on Patrick Dorgu or moved Matheus Cunha into wide areas while hunting a permanent solution.
