Amazon is adapting the 2018 God of War game into a live-action series set in Norse mythology. The show is still in pre-production and has not begun shooting, but casting announcements are arriving as Amazon and Sony prepare to move forward with production. Leading the cast is Ryan Hurst as Kratos; Hurst previously voiced Thor in the games and this marks the first time Kratos will not be portrayed by a Black actor.

Child actor Callum Vinson will play Atreus, and Alastair Duncan is set to reprise his game role as Mimir. Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka have been cast as the dwarven brothers Brok and Sindri. Max Parker will portray Heimdall, a choice that suggests the show will shift the game timeline by bringing the character in earlier.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is cast as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, and Teresa Palmer will play Sif; the announcement highlights a mix of familiar faces and performers new to the franchise. Many characters from the Norse games have not yet been cast, including Freya, Baldur, and Angrboda.
