Catherine O’Hara died of pulmonary embolism, death certificate shows
A death certificate released Monday listed a pulmonary embolism as the cause of death for Catherine O’Hara, with rectal cancer noted as an underlying cause. She died on Jan. 30 at age 71 at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. The certificate said no other underlying causes were listed and that she had been cremated.
Creative Artists Agency said she had been briefly ill around the time of her death. O’Hara’s five-decade career included roles in "Schitt’s Creek," "Home Alone" and "Beetlejuice." She won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as Moira Rose on "Schitt’s Creek," and in 1982 won a prime-time Emmy for writing on the Canadian sketch series "SCTV." On screen, she was the harried mother in the early 1990s "Home Alone" films, remembered for the ear-piercing cry of "KEVIN!" Her death prompted tributes across Hollywood.
