Catherine O'Hara Makes History With Posthumous Actor Awards Win
Canadian actor Catherine O'Hara, who died earlier this year at 71, has posthumously won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series at the Actor Awards for her final role as Patty Leigh in The Studio. Her long career included SCTV, Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Best in Show and the Emmy-winning run on Schitt's Creek.
O'Hara prevailed over a competitive field that included Kathryn Hahn, Jenna Ortega and Kristen Wiig, and in doing so became the first actress to receive a posthumous individual honor at the event. She is the third actor overall to win posthumously, following Heath Ledger and Chadwick Boseman, and the first television performer to be so honored.
The Studio continues to collect accolades: the show won 13 Emmys last year and had five nominations at the Actor Awards across its cast and ensemble. Season 2 began filming toward the end of January, shortly before O'Hara's death, and there has been no announcement yet about how the series will proceed without her; cast and crew have publicly honored the late star.
