Chained Echoes was funded on Kickstarter in early 2019 and released digitally on December 8, 2022. The campaign met stretch goals for physical editions on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. Matthias Linda, the solo developer behind Umami Tiger, announced he is terminating his business relationship with First Press Games and is "preparing a lawsuit" after the company failed to deliver the physical copies promised to backers.

He said only the PlayStation 4 edition reached backers, despite approval finishing in Q4 of 2023, and added, "Please understand that for legal reasons I can not go into further details." This is not an isolated complaint: close to a dozen indie developers have reported similar fulfillment problems with First Press Games over the past four years.

Even so, physical editions of Chained Echoes remain available to order through First Press Games’ website.
