Chappell Roan denied allegations that she made Jude Law’s daughter cry during an encounter in São Paulo, posting on Instagram Stories that she would “tell my half of the story” and that the security guard involved was not her personal protection. She said she was sitting at breakfast, did not see a woman and child approach her, and believed they were hotel guests.

Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, said she never instructed the guard to “go up and talk” to Law’s ex Catherine Harding and their 11‑year‑old daughter, Ada. “I did not, [and] they did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything,” she said, adding that it is unfair for security to assume someone has bad intentions and that she does not “hate children.” She apologized to Harding and Ada, saying, “I’m sorry to that mother and child that someone was assuming something that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad.
