Charlie's Angels rebooted by Crazy Rich Asians writer
There have been two attempts to bring Charlie’s Angels to the big screen. The first starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, whose success led to a reunion in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The second, directed by Elizabeth Banks in 2019 and featuring Kristen Stewart, received mixed reviews and suffered a disappointing box-office performance.
The three women who became private detectives and answered to a faceless man on the phone are reportedly being called back into action, with a new writer mapping out a fresh mission.
Drew Barrymore’s possible involvement might reassure some viewers, since her films are widely regarded as the stronger theatrical takes on the franchise. Stewart has said she "hated making that movie," and praised Cameron, Lucy and Drew as untouchable, adding, "I love that movie!"
It will be interesting to see what Chiarelli can conjure and which performers will step in as the next high-kicking heroes.
