Goal reports Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, and the 20-year-old is said to be keen on joining the Blues before the transfer deadline.

Jacquet made his Ligue 1 debut in January 2024 against Nice before being loaned to Clermont, where he became a defensive lynchpin and saw his loan cut short midway through 2024-25; he started 11 of Rennes' remaining 14 league games as they finished 11th. This season he has started every league game save for two matches due to suspension, has five France U21 caps, and is noted for aerial ability, long switches of play and ranking in the 95th percentile for interceptions (1.69 per 90 minutes).

Concerns over discipline remain: Jacquet received his first career red card in Rennes' 5-0 defeat at PSG after swiping Goncalo Ramos and picked up a booking on his return that triggered a suspension. Rennes are holding out for a £60m ($80.4m) fee, and whether that price proves prohibitive remains to be seen; Rennes are two points off a Champions League spot and head coach Habib Beye said, "I believe Jeremy is very important for our objectives, and if he were to leave, we would have to lower those objectives, because he's an essential player for us, one of the best in our team. We have to know how to resist this kind of approach."
