Chelsea suffered their first Premier League defeat under Liam Rosenior, losing 2-1 at Arsenal. The Blues were undone by two Gunners set-pieces and could not make their chances count before Pedro Neto's red card ended their hopes of taking anything from north London.

Mamadou Sarr, making his full Premier League debut, missed a great opportunity when he miskicked with the goal at his mercy and later got the final touch on William Saliba's header after Gabriel Magalhaes had nodded a corner across goal. Chelsea levelled on the stroke of half-time when Jorrel Hincapie flicked Reece James' wicked cross into his own net.

Early in the second half Jurrien Timber rose highest to head a Declan Rice corner past a flailing Robert Sanchez, with Neto booked for dissent and then sent off after a second yellow for scything down Gabriel Martinelli. Chelsea continued to threaten — Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro were denied by David Raya — but a late Alejandro Garnacho cross was kept out to seal the win for Arsenal.
