ZDNET: Chipolo One Point and Card Point are accurate, low-cost trackers for Android
ZDNET reviewed two Android-only finder tags from Slovenia-based Chipolo — the One Point fob and the Card Point wallet tag — priced at $21 and $23 respectively and designed to work with Google’s Find My Device network. The One Point is a 1.49 in (37.9 mm) fob, 0.25 in (6.4 mm) thick, rated splashproof to IPX5, runs on a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell that should last about a year, and can play a sound from about 200 ft (60 m).
The Card Point measures 3.35 x 2.11 in (85.1 x 53.6 mm) and 0.09 in (2.4 mm) thick, is also IPX5 splashproof, and has the same 200 ft sound range, but its battery is not user-replaceable — a compromise Chipolo says is required to keep the card so thin. ZDNET said setup is simple (one-tap setup, squeeze the tag to start), the finder tags have a loud 105 dB speaker, and testing found them “super accurate,” locating tags when hidden in a plant pot or down the back of a couch.
The reviewer also gave tags to a frequent misplacer for longer real-world testing and reported positive results for usability, accuracy and longevity, while noting the One Point’s limited splash protection and the Card’s non-replaceable battery. Chipolo owners who register a finder with Google’s app will receive an email with a 50% discount code for a new finder in two years and can return the old unit for free recycling.
