Chris Hemsworth & Tom Holland's 'In the Heart of the Sea' Fixes Major Marvel Mistake
Despite their long runs in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker have never shared a proper on-screen meeting. They have appeared in the same films — notably the climax of Avengers: Endgame — but never in the same frame, leaving more than a decade of Marvel storytelling without a direct Thor–Spider-Man interaction.
Their lone true pairing comes from Ron Howard’s 2015 film In the Heart of the Sea, released a year before Holland’s Spider-Man debut. The movie, a retelling of the real-life Essex whaling disaster, casts Hemsworth as first mate Owen Chase and Holland as young cabin boy Thomas Nickerson; they appear in scenes together and are joined by an ensemble including Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Benjamin Walker, and Ben Whishaw.
Commercially the picture struggled, grossing $94 million worldwide against a $100 million budget and earning roughly $25 million in North America.
