Chris Minns and Jewish groups condemn DJ Haram's 'horrid rhetoric'
The premier of New South Wales has ruled out cutting funding for the Sydney Biennale after Jewish groups condemned language used by New York–based Zubeyda Muzeyyen, who performs as DJ Haram, at an opening event at the White Bay Power Station. During her set she said a "Zio-Australian-Epstein empire" was responsible for silencing dissenters, comments critics say feed longstanding antisemitic tropes.
The extended performance expressed solidarity with the Palestinian resistance, referenced "martyrs", condemned "global complicity" in an ongoing "genocide" against the people of Gaza and included the chant "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free". Chris Minns described the words as "horrid rhetoric" and "distressing", given December's terror attack at Bondi beach that killed 15 people at a Hanukah event, but rejected calls to review state funding.
