Chris Pratt, who voices the title character in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, described the lengths he went to as a child to round up change for arcade games. He and Charlie Day stopped by TODAY on March 17 with Sheinelle Jones and guest co-host Ashley Graham to discuss the upcoming film.

Pratt recalled growing up in Lake Stevens, Washington, and making a daily circuit that took him past the laundromat and pizza parlor, where he would slip his arm behind the jukebox to check the coin return so he could play Super Mario Bros. When coins were nowhere to be found, he said he would get a long stick and fish coins out of a wishing well in a local spot called Frontier Village.

“And I’d play Mario,” Pratt confessed, and he admitted, “I honestly think that I did steal someone’s wish because I’m now Mario.” Day painted a comic picture of some child promising to be Mario one day; Pratt playfully interrupted, pantomiming fishing a quarter from the well as he claimed the role for himself.
