Christian Bale Backs 'American Psycho' Remake: 'I Like Brave People'
Luca Guadagnino is developing a new version of American Psycho and is searching for a lead to take on Patrick Bateman. Christian Bale, whose portrayal defined the role, spoke about the project while promoting his latest film, The Bride.
Bale said he had "fantastic memories" working with Mary Harron on the 2000 adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's novel, a film that has remained a cult classic.
He offered encouragement for the remake: "All the best to 'em, I like brave people. Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop." The new film will be produced by Sam Pressman with a script by Scott Z. Burns, and Guadagnino has said he plans a "completely different" approach.
Casting has proved difficult; Ellis said "a couple of high-profile actors" turned down the role, and Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler have been mentioned as candidates. Bale called the project a "bold choice," and the role has been described as intimidating to follow after his Bateman.
