Christy Tanner Named C.E.O. of New York Public Radio
New York Public Radio said on Tuesday that Christy Tanner will be its next chief executive and that she will take the helm on Wednesday. The nonprofit, which owns WNYC and the classical station WQXR, produces The Brian Lehrer Show, the podcast Radiolab and the local news site Gothamist.
Ms. Tanner, 57, is a veteran of CBS News and The Associated Press. She spent eight years at CBS expanding the network’s streaming platform and transforming its digital business, and earlier led TV Guide Digital and its sale to CBS; she replaces LaFontaine Oliver, who transitioned to an executive chair role and helped recruit the new chief executive.
Public broadcasting has been in turmoil since Congress voted last year to strip more than $500 million in annual funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, but New York Public Radio has been mostly insulated because it received only about 4 percent of its funding from the corporation.
