The film was a commercial success, grossing $96 million worldwide against a reported $26 million budget. It holds a "Certified Fresh" 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "With solid performances and tight direction from Wes Craven, Red Eye is a brisk, economic thriller."

Murphy is set to appear next in a new project from Damien Chazelle alongside Daniel Craig, a film that reportedly entered production recently.
