Sandfall, the studio behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, says it is dropping legal action related to the graphic novel L’Académie Clair-Obscur. The studio apologised, saying "Sorry for dragging our feet in communicating," and explained the situation was new and complex so it needed to consult all stakeholders before sharing details.

Sandfall says it has withdrawn the requests made by its legal representative. While the team normally works to protect against counterfeit products, it concluded the action aimed at the comic published in January 2026 "does not align with us". The studio added that supporting artists and encouraging creativity are its "most important values" and wished creators Olivier Gay and Grelin every success.

Gay called the resolution a "huge relief" and a "super move on the studio's part".
