Clair Obscur studio seeks 'fair solution' in dispute with comic artist
Sandfall Interactive publicly replied after Olivier Gay, creator of the comic L'Académie Clair-Obscur, said the studio’s lawyers had contacted him and demanded he stop selling the book. Gay wrote on X that he pitched the book to publisher Drakoo in 2019 and holds a contract dated several months before Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s release, adding that the letter implied his work was "riding on the game's undeniable success." Gay said he has "boundless admiration for Sandfall Interactive's success story," but that he would change the book’s name because he lacked "the energy nor the money to engage in a legal battle, especially against French studios that I greatly appreciate." He describes L'Académie Clair-Obscur as a story "about a peasant who joins an elite magic school," a setting that differs from Sandfall’s game.
