Clair Obscur writer likens choosing an ending to 'picking a favorite child'
Picking between Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's two endings is gut-wrenching for players, and for lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen it's akin to choosing "my favorite child."
When asked if she had a preferred ending in an interview at the Game Developers Conference 2026, Svedberg-Yen joked the question was "like asking me to choose my favorite child" between Verso and Maelle, and said the team "wrote these endings in tandem."
She added that the finales "are meant to be understood together," explaining the two were made that way so they "are a contrast, they are a pair, and they are the two sides of the same coin – the recto verso, if you will."
