Coinbase: CLARITY Act Will Trigger Long Talks on DeFi and Token Standards, EU Rules May Force 2026 Action
Coinbase's institutional chief told CNBC that comprehensive crypto market-structure legislation such as the CLARITY Act is more complex than a narrow stablecoin bill and will provoke extended negotiations.
Key sticking points include oversight of decentralized finance (DeFi) and the development of token standards, which the executive said will lengthen discussions in Congress.
He added that competitive pressure from Europe’s MiCA framework and the risk of talent flight are likely to push lawmakers toward taking action in 2026.
