Colbert Questions Trump’s Ability to Lead Both the U.S. and Venezuela
Stephen Colbert challenged President Trump’s ability to run both the United States and Venezuela after Mr. Trump held a news conference at Mar-a-Lago announcing the raid and capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and saying he would run the country in the interim.
On Monday’s "Late Show," Colbert called the plan "crazy," saying the president "can’t run two countries at once because 'he can’t even run.'" Colbert added, "Oh, so this country and Venezuela? Evidently, when he says 'America first,' he means alphabetically."
Other late-night hosts also mocked the announcement in the roundup, with Jimmy Kimmel quipping, "Is running the United States not enough? I mean, if you’re looking for a challenge, try a sit-up," and mocking the idea that Mr. Trump could run another country. Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon offered similar jokes included in the segment. The piece does not provide further details about next steps for running Venezuela or how those plans will be implemented.
