Colossal Order exits Cities: Skylines 2; Iceflake Studios takes over patches
Developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive have parted ways, and Iceflake Studios will take over continuing patches for Cities: Skylines 2. The city builder's launch was rocky, and reception remained mixed as fixes and updates rolled out. Players and critics pointed to a range of problems: poor optimization, a lack of modding support, and a perceived sparseness of features compared with the original Cities: Skylines.
The game's Bridges & Ports expansion was also delayed for more than a year. In a 2023 review, the game's performance and optimization issues and its general sparseness were noted, though the reviewer said they did not expect the extent of the post-launch problems.
Now independent again, Colossal Order is working on a new project. Hallikainen declined to share details beyond that it is "in the simulation genre," will be made for PC, and will use Unity again. "We're very much happily using Unity," she said.
