Cool Clothing to Brave the Cold at New York Fashion Week
Unusually cold weather ahead of New York Fashion Week seemed to inform many of the looks on the streets and at the shows, which ended on Monday. Outfits often aimed to be striking and warm at once. Sometimes one garment carried the look: a big statement coat. Other times cropped jackets revealed the layered pieces beneath.
After walking in the Coach show, models bundled up in roomy coats that complemented their big runway hair, and headwear ranged from beanies to berets, pillbox hats and trapper caps. Knitwear was a focal point both on and off the runways. At Zankov, models wore stacked sweaters with different sleeve lengths and many tied sweaters around the waist.
Belts altered silhouettes at Tory Burch and Ralph Lauren, and the cinched look appeared at Calvin Klein in a particularly sumptuous overcoat; a thin leather strap nipped in Dominic Sessa’s jacket there, and pink and red pompoms distinguished Myha’la.
