Domed Screens Put Fans ‘Courtside’ at Cosm Venues
Cosm, a company that evolved from planetarium displays, is using giant domed LED screens to give fans immersive, near–courtside and behind‑home‑plate views of live sporting events. The Inglewood location features an 87‑foot domed screen made of magnetized LED panels that can fill viewers’ peripheral vision.
Spectators said they could hear players’ sneakers and see the rim shake after dunks while watching NBA and other games. Jeb Terry, Cosm’s chief executive and a former NFL offensive lineman who later worked at Fox Sports, co‑founded the company in 2020 after acquiring Evans & Sutherland, known for planetarium systems.
"The planetarium takes you to space and now Cosm takes you to the sidelines," he said. Cosm sent small camera crews to capture nontraditional angles—behind the rim, near courtside, at the 50‑yard line—and producers at a facility about four miles away choose which perspectives to show.
Devin Poolman, chief product and technology officer, said the goal is not to chase every moment but to give viewers "the best seat in the house for that period of time." The company opened its first venue in Inglewood in 2024, followed by one near Dallas, and has plans for locations in Atlanta, Detroit and Cleveland.
