Could not reproduce reported Resident Evil Requiem FPS drops with Nvidia drivers
Reddit users reported large performance drops in Resident Evil Requiem after installing the GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.86—one user on an RTX 40-series GPU said fps fell to 74 and GPU power draw dipped to 304 W. I ran my own tests on the hardware team's test bench but could not reproduce those losses.
I used Display Driver Uninstaller between driver changes, enabled path tracing at 1920 x 1080, set graphics, lighting and shadow quality to max, chose the 'Performance' upscaling mode and set Nvidia Frame Generation to '2x'. The test rig runs on a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Master motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and 64 GB of DDR5.
With an RTX 4080 Super the latest 595.71 driver averaged 164 fps, while 576.88 averaged 166.85 fps. An RTX 5090 averaged 185.97 fps on 595.71, 178 fps on 591.86 and 180 fps on 576.88, with average GPU draw around 240 watts. Those fluctuations fall within typical testing variance and I didn't notice a tangible difference during the Wrenwood loop I used.
