Kotaku reports that court documents from the ongoing UK employment case over Rockstar’s firing of more than two dozen employees include messages suggesting Grand Theft Auto 6’s online mode will support at least 32 players.

On Monday, an employment tribunal in the UK ruled Rockstar won’t have to pay the fired employees back pay during the case. As reported by People Make Games, court filings shown at the hearing included a Discord message from a former employee saying Rockstar didn’t want more than five people taking time off because it made it harder to fill playtest sessions “with 32 players,” and another participant questioned that restriction. The detail was described in court as extremely confidential, and Rockstar’s legal spokesperson wasn’t comfortable reading it out loud.

The coverage notes this is a small detail and not necessarily surprising—GTA Online currently supports 32 players (30 players and 2 spectators)—and it remains unclear whether GTA 6 will support exactly 32 players at launch or whether other modes might allow more or fewer. The company says the employees were let go for sharing confidential information, while the devs and the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain say the firings were union-busting, and those disputes are part of the ongoing case.
