Craig Silvey facing more charges over producing child exploitation material

Australian author Craig Silvey, 43, has been charged with further child exploitation offences. He was previously charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material in early January, and on Monday was also charged with producing such material between January and June 2022, along with an additional count of possession.

Silvey appeared in Fremantle magistrates court without entering pleas; his bail was extended with the same strict conditions but no surety now payable. Police allege he was communicating with child exploitation offenders online when officers raided his Fremantle home prior to his arrest in January.

Police investigating Silvey have also charged a 68-year-old woman with two counts of producing child exploitation material and one count of distributing it after analysing the writer’s electronic devices.
