Crime 101 Overtakes Rebecca Ferguson Thriller at Global Box Office
Crime 101, an Amazon MGM release starring Chris Hemsworth, is nearing the $50 million mark worldwide with around $45 million so far. Directed by Bart Layton, the film sits at a Certified Fresh 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, "Crime 101 has studied the greats of L.A.
Noir closely and shows its homework with sleek action set pieces and vivid characterizations, receiving top marks and graduating near the top of its class." Despite holding its own theatrically in a market where many adult studio genre movies debut on streaming, it will need stronger returns to recoup its reported $90 million budget.
That performance has pushed Crime 101 past the lifetime global haul of The Snowman, which grossed $43 million. Based on a book by Jo Nesbø and released in 2017, Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation was widely panned; the director later said he couldn’t complete principal photography and has disowned the project.
