Crimson Desert is a vast open world set in Pywel, a medieval realm filled with knights, bandits, witches and even cats. You begin as Kliff, who is trying to get the gang back together, but first you’ll have to make a pit stop in Hernand.

Along the way you’ll encounter numerous puzzles both on land and in the Abyss, face difficult battles, and perhaps pet a dog or two. The game’s breadth means every playthrough can feel different, but that variety can also be overwhelming.

If you’re just getting started, there’s a beginner’s guide and an interactive map to help you get accustomed to the world and decide where to go first. Having a sense of direction makes exploration more manageable in such a huge environment.

Be prepared: Crimson Desert is fairly hands-off with tutorials, and you’ll be thrown into the Abyss and unraveling ancient ruins early on. Gear up, stock up on food, pick the best skills for your playstyle, and look out for abyss cressets and abyss nexuses to traverse the world quickly.
