Cristiano Ronaldo backs Almeria after they move into automatic promotion spots
UD Almeria moved into the automatic promotion places in Spain's Segunda Division after a commanding 3-0 victory over Cultural Leonesa. The win was the club's fifth in six league games and lifted them to second in the table, a position they had not occupied since November.
The side have recovered from a difficult period following their relegation in April 2024, with new investment from a Saudi group in May 2025 and Cristiano Ronaldo taking a 25% stake earlier this month. Ronaldo, the Al-Nassr captain, was in Madrid recovering from a hamstring injury but kept close tabs on the game.
Shortly after the final whistle he posted on Instagram, writing: "Great win today. We continue." The message was noted as a morale boost for a squad juggling high expectations and the technical demands of a promotion push. Head coach Juan Francesc Ferrer, known as Rubi, urged caution despite the momentum.
