At Emerald City Comic Con, Critical Role co-founder Sam Riegel said the company is preparing to pitch a movie, telling Popverse's Grant DeArmitt backstage, "We’re about to pitch — I don’t even know if you guys know this — we’re about to pitch a movie. We’ve got things cooking." During the Sunday panel, Riegel asked the crowd, "Would you guys like to see an animated Calamity movie?" The audience cheered, and he added, "I would too.

I would too." The Calamity — also called the Great Calamity — was a divine war fought between the Prime Deities of Exandria and the Betrayer Gods. That conflict lasted around two centuries, ended the Age of Arcanum, ushered in the era known as the Divergence, and resulted in the Prime Deities banishing the Betrayer Gods.

The Calamity has been referenced in The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein, and is the focus of the 2022 miniseries Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, which is set 1,000 years before Campaign 1: Vox Machina and features DM Brennan Lee Mulligan.
