'Crystal Lake' Images Tease Arrival of 'Friday the 13th' Villain Pamela Voorhees

Peacock has released official looks at Crystal Lake, a television prequel set before the events of the original 1980 Friday the 13th. Linda Cardellini is taking on the role of Pamela Voorhees, the character Betsy Palmer played in the original film, which centered on a mother who killed teens after her son died.

The new teasers include a hand holding a bloody knife, its bloodied cuff on a blue sweater echoing Pamela’s outfit from the original movie. Other images show a fog-shrouded dock on Crystal Lake and a close-up of a couple’s legs, moments that could hint at violence or its aftermath.

Crystal Lake appears positioned to explore Pamela’s grief and what might push her over the edge, a path similar in intent to how Bates Motel examined Norman Bates. The franchise is best known for Jason Voorhees and the shock elements of its films, and adapting those elements to a long-form series presents creative risks while also risking pushback from dedicated fans.
