Crystal Palace have decided not to sack manager Oliver Glasner after talks with chairman Steve Parish, with Parish understood to want Glasner to see out his contract until the end of the season. Glasner had publicly accused the club’s board of “abandoning” him and his squad after Palace sold captain Marc Guéhi to Manchester City 24 hours before they were due to face Sunderland.

His comments followed a 2-1 defeat and included an admission that he did not care if he saw out his contract, having already confirmed he will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season. The outburst is said to have dismayed Parish, who weighed whether there was any option other than parting company with the manager who led Palace to their first major trophy when they won the FA Cup eight months ago.

Palace have been active in transfer talks this month and have already signed Brennan Johnson from Tottenham; the club expect Glasner to help turn around a run of 10 games without a win in all competitions. It is understood the sale of Guéhi — who missed the trip to Sunderland and is completing a medical in Manchester ahead of a reported £20m move to City — helped bring Glasner’s disenchantment to a head.

Palace say accepting the offer was in the club’s best interest because Guéhi was out of contract in the summer.
