One of the night’s flashpoints came when the winners of Best Original Song, KPop Demon Hunters, were cut off during their acceptance for “Golden.” Singer Ejae passed the mic to co-writer Yu Han Lee and they were abruptly played off, prompting backlash from viewers who called the move disrespectful.

In a post-show interview, Walt Disney Television’s Rob Mills said, “One thing, as we post mortem for next year, will be to look at how we’re handling speeches,” and added that organizers will “look at everything and figure out what is the most elegant solution.” A separate moment landed on a different kind of controversy.

Timothée Chalamet’s recent remarks that “no one cares” about ballet and opera drew attention beforehand, and host Conan O’Brien quipped that security was “extremely tight” because of “concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities,” as the camera caught Chalamet smiling in the audience.
