Dads Don Sequins and Wigs to Bond with Their Kids

Across the country, fathers are donning sparkly blazers and purple wigs to bond with their Gen Z and Alpha kids on their own turf, whether at the Eras Tour or at “KPop Demon Hunters” screenings. When the comedian Paul Scheer went to Taylor Swift’s concerts in Inglewood in 2023, he said, “I went there expecting it to be these bitter dads, like, ‘I don’t like Taylor Swift,’” and by his second interview realized, “Oh, I’ve misread this.” He spoke to about 50 dads in the SoFi Stadium parking lot and compiled the footage into a short film, “Swiftie Dads.” Some fathers make full tributes.

Dave McCarthy, 56, of Worcester, paired a Red Sox visor with a gold sequined bow tie and matching blazer to accompany his daughter Kate, 21, to a Taylor Swift show in Foxborough.
