HBO announced Jan. 29, 2026 that Damon Lindelof is developing a new limited series titled The Chain, ordering eight episodes for what the network is calling the show’s first and only season.

The series is based on the novel The Chain by New York Times best-selling author Adrian McKinty. Lindelof will reportedly “expand the mythology” of the award-winning thriller, which the outlet notes has been compared to Jaws.

This will be Lindelof’s first project under his deal with Media Res, the Emmy-winning company producing the series. Further creative and production details are being kept under wraps.

The article covering the announcement calls this a developing story and says more information will be added as it becomes available.

At this time HBO has not announced a release date, casting, directors or other specifics for The Chain; those details remain unclear pending further updates.
