Dani and Danny Dyer’s bid to save British seaside holidays
Danny Dyer and his daughter Dani have been spending weekends on the Isle of Sheppey filming The Dyers’ Caravan Park at Priory Hill & Nutts Farm, trying to boost the site’s fortunes and make caravanning feel appealing again. Danny has been getting stuck in alongside residents, even clearing bins and joking about the contrast with more highbrow celebrity projects.
The pair have taken on practical tasks — cleaning caravans, donning a bear costume to entertain children and dealing with problems such as complaints about the indoor pool — and Danny says he has invested not just money but his reputation. He recalls childhood holidays in a caravan park and wants to revive the community spirit and encourage children to spend time outdoors rather than inside on screens.
There are hurdles: snobbery around caravanning as a working-class holiday and the lure of cheaper foreign trips for younger people.
