Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that ex-chairman Daniel Levy and then-owner Joe Lewis tried to influence his team selections, saying he faced behind-the-scenes pressure over specific players during his time at White Hart Lane. Redknapp recalled a call before a trip to Manchester in 2010, when Levy asked who would play up front and suggested speaking to Rafael van der Vaart about who he wanted to play with.

He says he told Levy, 'I pick the team, not Rafael van der Vaart.' Redknapp adds that Lewis then called and described Robbie Keane as 'useless', warning he would not watch the match on television if Keane played; Redknapp stood his ground. He believes those confrontations contributed to his dismissal.
