Daniel Radcliffe was often floated as a potential successor to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but he says the idea was never real and he has no intention of taking over the role. The internet rumor was flattering, he said, but it was never put forward by anyone with the power to make it happen.

Radcliffe added that while it would be foolish not to consider such an opportunity, following Jackman into any of his roles—especially the one he has made most iconic—is not on his bucket list. He is happy to let Jackman continue with the character. The actor also made clear he is not urgently pursuing comic-book parts.

“I am so out of the loop,” he said, and noted he would judge any job on the quality of the script. If a project arrived that was “exciting, different, weird and cool,” he would be open to it, but he is not clamoring to join the Marvel cycle. Recasting Wolverine has proven difficult after Jackman’s long run from 2000’s X-Men through Logan and his return in Deadpool & Wolverine, which reaffirmed his hold on the role.
