Danielle Fishel Reveals Early-Stage Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Danielle Fishel, best known for her role on Boy Meets World, has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram.
She said she was diagnosed with DCIS, or ductal carcinoma in situ, which she described as "very, very, very early" and "technically stage zero."
The mom of two said she decided to go public to encourage others to keep up with screenings, noting the temptation to skip them. "It would be so easy to say: 'I don't have time for that, I went to my mammogram last year, I was fine last year,'" she said, and added that she had previously thought she would "suffer in silence" and only tell a "small group" until after treatment.
Fishel credited acting when she received a text about her yearly mammogram result: "The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment."
According to the report, colleagues Will and Rider assured her they would accommodate her needs. Will said, "Whatever you need, we’re here. And if you need to miss something or if you need to postpone stuff, it’s the last thing you need to worry about."
