Daredevil: Born Again showrunner has mixed feelings on season 2 politics
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finds newly elected Mayor Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) tightening his grip on New York City, a crackdown that threatens Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and other residents. Showrunner Dario Scardapane says the storyline echoes contemporary US politics.
"The playbook is pretty well established," he noted, adding that "the anti-vigilante task force is part of the comics" and that a few sequences shot a year ago "could be off the news, and it’s weirding all of us." He admitted he has "mixed feelings" about the show's renewed political energy and invoked Stan Lee’s idea that comics should reflect the world outside your window.
At the same time, Scardapane said he enjoys working with "huge archetypes, almost mythological characters," which he finds fun to write. As season 2 brings the Mayor Fisk arc to its conclusion, the showrunner says the series will move back toward the Frank Miller-era comics.
